WTS Participates in Global Wellness Day

WTS has developed a special program of events for clients in conjunction with Global Wellness Day’s International Coordinator, Jean-Guy de Gabriac. These include special fitness classes, healthy meals and drinks, meditation, workshops and free mini spa services in over 20 WTS-managed properties.

WTS is also running a wellness-related event for its corporate employees, their families and friends on Global Wellness Day, with a 5km walk or run and a celebratory meal in Washington DC.

de Gabriac said: “I’m delighted the WTS team is going to take part in Global Wellness Day in such a wholehearted way, as it’s totally aligned with the WTS philosophy of “Building better Lifestyles” – not just on June 13, but 365 days a year. I’m thrilled so many top-notch properties managed by WTS International are on board,” he continued.

WTS Spas taking part in Global Wellness Day are listed below.

“Global Wellness Day will start at sunrise with beach yoga in Fiji and when the day finishes at sunset in Hawaii, celebrations will have been held in 70 countries and covered all time zones.”

Susie Hammer WTS International’s Vice President of Spa commented: “As a leader in both the spa and fitness industries, everything that we do revolves around wellness. As an international firm, we believe it’s important to embrace Global Wellness Day and set an example for our employees, members, clients and the guests who visit our facilities around the world.”

WTS President and Founder, Gary Henkin, said, “We strive to provide our guests, clients and members not only with a wellness experience but also with knowledge to take home with them so they can incorporate wellness into their daily lives. Global Wellness Day reflects that very philosophy. We’ve invited clients and on-site managers to spread the word and say “YES” to Global Wellness Day and assist them in strategically coordinating their events and offers to ensure we promote the importance of a healthy lifestyle.”

Hammer said: “We want to spread the word about wellness. Although it means different things to different people, on Global Wellness Day, we want everyone to think about two things: how they can personally become more well and how they can help those around them achieve greater levels of wellness.”

Dr. Abishek Jain

With more than 14 years of experience in the luxury hospitality, spa and wellness industries, Dr. Jain is an industry leader in the Indian subcontinent. He completed a degree in integrative medicine at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bangalore followed by a research role at the National Institute of Naturopathy under the Ministry of Health for the government of India. He also undertook consultancy work for a number of world-class spa, yoga and sports businesses, and assisted in the pre-opening of what is thought to be the first Ayurvedic centre outside India, at The BodyHoliday at LeSPORT, St Lucia, in the Caribbean. Dr. Jain gained significant operational knowledge as senior leader at this spa, which delivers 250 treatments every day, in a wellness centre and specially-built Ayurvedic centre within the resort.

In 2011, he joined The Leela Palaces, Hotels & Resorts and later led the ESPA Spa at The Leela Palace, Udaipur – a luxury tented spa by the lakeside – which has since won many awards. Dr. Jain has also worked for international retail brands such as Elemis, ESPA, Forest Essentials, Kama Ayurveda, La Thérapie, Essie and OPI in both development and staff training.

“The main challenge in my new role will be to ensure operators and investors understand the huge benefits of working with a world-class company such as WTS International,” said Dr. Jain. “I feel confident that my background in pre-opening – and the expertise of WTS’ large family of colleagues – will enable us to add substantial value to the operations of our clients,” he added.

Gary Henkin, President of WTS International said: “The market for spa and wellness is growing rapidly in this region. Our aim is to offer our world-class operational and consulting services to investors in these markets to enable them to establish robust, profitable businesses and to realize the true value of their investments.

“The appointment of Dr. Jain – when coupled with our existing team of global experts – gives WTS International the range, strength and depth required to satisfy the highest level of commercial operations in these markets. We look forward to talking with the leading operators and investors in the Middle East, the Indian Ocean region, Malaysia and India and to working with them.”

WTS Design Team Begins Accreditation with the WELL Building Institute

Mary Lynn Mellinger and Andrea Dubois of WTS International among the first interior designers in the world to begin accreditation with the WELL Building Institute.

WTS International is thrilled to announce that two members of our design team have begun the process of gaining full accreditation from the International WELL Building Institute.

The IWBI is a public benefit corporation whose mission is to improve human health and wellbeing through the built environment. Its WELL Building Standard® is a set of 102 performance metrics, design strategies and procedures that can be implemented by owners, designers, engineers, contractors and operators of a property. The Standard is third-party certified by the Green Building Certification Institute, which also administers the respected LEED certification program and the LEED professional credentialing program. During 2015, WTS designers, Andrea Dubois and Mary Lynn Mellinger, will undertake the work required to become fully accredited.

The process started with the awarding of the provisional Well Accredited Professional credential (WELL AP) at the conclusion of the IWBI’s first two-day inaugural WELL AP workshop. During the workshop, held recently at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute, Dubois and Mellinger were introduced to the purpose, key components and structure of the WELL Building Standard (WELL). It is the first building standard to focus on the health and wellness of people in buildings.

A WELL AP Exam will launch in November 2015 and will be complemented by a comprehensive educational program. Dubois and Mellinger will be among the first to participate.

Mellinger said: “The exam will test knowledge of the WELL Building Standard. We will be tested on the 102 performance metrics, which involve air, water, nourishment, light, fitness, comfort and mental wellbeing. In addition to the WELL Building Standard, we also need to be familiar with the body of research that supports the standard. These are contained in what are known as ‘WELLographies’.”

The WELL AP is an advanced credential designed for experienced building professionals and is not an entry-level accreditation. Mellinger says it will take WTS’ work to a higher level: “Not only will we be able to design for our clients with the highest level of attention to their wellbeing, we’ll also be able to provide leadership on projects that are pursuing WELL certification,” she said.

Dubois said: “WTS will continue to be at the front of the worldwide wellness movement, by having designers on staff who are equipped to provide a higher level of expertise when it comes to incorporating wellness into the built environment.”

WTS is currently working with a residential/hotel project with a major developer in Kuala Lumpur, which has already benefited from the new-found expertise of the two designers, as have a number of other properties that are intent on pursuing WELL Certification.

Eau Spa Wins Five-Star Rating from Forbes Travel Guide

We’re delighted to announce that the team at WTS has supported Eau Spa at Eau Palm Beach Resort & Spa in Manalapan Florida, US, in achieving a valuable Five-Star rating from Forbes Travel Guide.

This Five-Star accolade is bestowed only on spas that meet the most stringent hospitality standards in offering exceptional experiences with extraordinary design and facilities, uncompromising service and advanced treatments.

To secure the rating, the spa’s Director, Catherine Warren, was trained using a program designed by WTS and specifically developed around Forbes’ guidelines.

WTS executives were initially trained by Forbes and delivered the program to the team at Eau Spa. Gary Henkin, President of WTS, says: “We took the decision to develop our training program with Forbes to give us the expertise to offer instruction at the highest level. It also ensures we provide our clients with world-class customer service.”

WTS took over the management of Eau Spa in 2010 and worked to improve its customer services scores. The WTS team has been in charge of enhancing procedures at the 19-treatment room, 42,000sq ft (3,902sq m) spa ever since.

Eau Spa, Forbes 2015 Five Star Winner

Henkin said: “There are only 48 spas in the world with Forbes Five-Star ratings and 27 of these are in the US, so we’re delighted to have been able to work with the team at Eau Spa to enable them to achieve this rating, in recognition of their world class status.

The fact that such a high proportion of Forbes Five-Star properties are in the US indicates how competitive the market is and how vital it’s been for Eau Spa to invest in quality training to enable it to compete at the highest level for the most discerning customers.”

WTS is also working on many other prestigious spas that command Forbes’ Four-Star ratings, including The Spa at Trump Chicago; The Spa at Trump Vegas; The Spa at Trump SoHo, New York and The Spa at Whitebarn Inn.

WTS manages the first four properties and has a contract for operational consultancy with the Spa at Whitebarn Inn.

“The Forbes Five-Star designation is one of the hospitality industry’s highest and most respected accolades,” said Catherine Warren, director of Eau Spa. “This reflects our team’s dedication to providing guests with unparalleled luxury spa experiences that underscore the ‘Pause, Play and Perfect’ vision – time stands still, worries are forgotten and well deserved ‘me time’ is all that remains.”
